Rory Mizen was born in Oxford, but from the age of 2 months was flown out to live in the Middle East where he lived for 16 years in Muscat Oman, during The First Gulf War. He moved back to England in 2005. It was a foreign country to Rory, but it interested him. From the age of 16 he picked up a camera and started to document everyday things that were of interest to him.
The thriving Bristol Underground music scene caught his eye and he cut his teeth by photographing his friends playing at gigs. As he became more comfortable behind the camera, he started experimenting with his own projects, including his "Old and Young" project and the "Welcome to Stokes Croft" project.
His debut exhibition"Welcome to Stokes Croft" also featured many of the resident artists from www.threenine.eu which proved to be a great combination. The exhibition was a bench mark for Rory and has lead on to other projects, including the Stokes Croft Photography festival "Underexposed" and his own show "Moving Canvas". Expect a lot of forthcoming projects from Rory with a photography book on Bristol in the pipeline.
