Dondi will be best remembered for his presence in the now cult film/documentary Style Wars, and full colour spreads of Martha Coopers Subway Art. After the initial explosion of Style Wars settled the Style Master General continued with his painting, however now he transposed his graffiti on canvas as opposed to transit authority steel.
Whilst other writers of the same era lost their way in the urban realities, Dondi grasped this opportunity with both hands and turned his art crimes around into a legit means. By the early 80s his respect as a true artist was concrete, touring the world & exhibiting his work in galleries such as the Fun Gallery (NYC) , 51X Gallery (NYC), Yaki Kornblit Gallery (Amsterdam) Boymans-Van Beuningen (Rotterdam) His one man shows always attracted a huge amount of interest with his work being snapped up especially by the Europeans.
