Cheo’s creations are of a visionary cartoonist, who’s single largest influence is that of the late comic genius Vaughn Bode. His love of Japanese Manga comics and console graphics not only supported his ideas but help bring his characters to life.
The early days saw Cheo forming his first graffiti crew TCP (T-Cut-Posse) with his childhood friend Deed. Starting out painting on the wall of the Barton Hill Youth Club and then later to progress to John Nations Barton Hill Dugout, where he could paint free from hassle. Later he would become part of the infamous TUB (The United Bombers) along with Era and Teao.
In March 1989 the British Police carried out a series of raids as part of Operation Anderson. Even though Cheo’s involvement was low-level the cost was high, having photo’s, work and anything vaguely graffiti related confiscated from him.
Triumph came two months later when Cheo alongside Inkie took second place representing bristol graffiti in the crew category at the World Graffiti Championships in Bridlington, North Yorkshire, only to be knocked off pole position by Slick and Risk from L.A who took the competition to another level.
After all the hype from Operation Anderson, the news coverage and appearances on T.V died down Cheo put his paint and pens down for a hiatus that was to last 10 years. Now back with all the vigour of the glory days Cheo divides his time up doing commissions, canvasses live painting events.
